Though the bathrooms in your home may not be the first thing you think of when preparing to sell your home this summer, this is definitely one of the rooms you simply can’t overlook if wanting to pull in the right buyer. The comforts of the contemporary home are aplenty, yet the staples of old – like a classic kitchen, comfy living room and classy bathrooms – are still as valued as ever. And, though you may have remodelled your main bathroom in recent years, always keep in mind that a buyer will be examining, investigating even, all of the bathrooms!
- First, update your accessories. This is a small, too often overlooked, item on the bathroom renovation checklist. Make sure the linens, shower curtains, bath mats and toilet cover are clean and match. If not, see to it that they do. This is a small but revitalizing change that can be made on the tightest of budgets.
- Make sure all of the light fixtures in the bathroom are green and efficient. That is to say, many light fixtures in older bathrooms give off too dull a glow and fail to highlight some of the finer points of the room, and are bad for the environment. Update old bulbs with LED lights.
- Install shelving over cabinets. Keeping in line with a contemporary spin on your bathroom upgrade, it can assuredly be beneficial to install chic shelves and eschew the traditional cabinet style for storing linens and other items. There is no sense in being creative in every room but the bathroom, so let your imagination run wild!
- Refinish the bathtub and replace toilet. Simply, it can be a smart and money-saving strategy to replace the toilet in your home with a low-flow model. In addition, refinishing a bathtub that looks discoloured and stained rather than replacing it can save you big money, while giving the tub that desired new look.
- Lastly, remember that paint is your best friend if you’re looking to really add a new face to your bathroom when readying to sell this summer. Soft colours can be quite nice in bathrooms but, of course in this day and age, there are no limits to what you can or can’t do with colour schemes in a contemporary bathroom. The colour you choose should ideally compliment all of the above four items!
